Inland Waterside Safety and Rescue

There are a number of incidents each year where employees are potentially at risk from injury or loss of life due to working in close proximity to water.

Employers have a duty of care and must be aware of the dangers presented at such places and ensure that the safety of all concerned in these activities is maintained through pre-planning and/or Dynamic Risk Assessment.

There are many water risks, the main ones being rivers, which are tidal, fast flowing and are subject to frequent flooding, and canals, which could be deep and have steep sides.

Other potential risks to you or your employees while working include:

  • Ponds and lakes
  • Docks
  • Sewers
  • Reservoirs
  • Quarries
  • Water culverts
